New Event!

The Legal Oppression of First Nations Women: Past and Present

Does Canada have discriminatory laws? If so, how have First Nations women been
impacted by these laws? What is the real "status" of First Nations women and
peoples in Canada?  Find out the answers to these questions and more at this event.

Hey everyone,

The info for our next meeting is below. There are also some exciting
events happening around town. There is a film festival this weekend at
Langara College. Films are on a variety of great issues. This Saturday
there is a rally to reclaim housing for more social housing in the
Downtown Eastside. This Monday, Valentine's Day, there is a Memorial
for Murdered and Missing Women in the Downtown Eastside. Scroll down

Rally to Reclaim Housing:

DTES-Citywide Solidarity Rally to Support 10 Sites Campaign and the
Upcoming Olympic Village Tent City

*Support the 10-Sites Campaign to secure 10 sites in the DTES for
resident-controlled social housing before the municipal elections of
2011

*Support the reclamation of housing at the Olympic Village by
protesting the Olympic Village sell-off on Feb 12, and spreading the
word about the upcoming Olympic Village Tent City, Feb 26 2011

Time: Sat February 12th 2011, noon
Location: Meet at 58 West Hastings, Downtown Eastside of Vancouver,
Coast Salish Territory

Women's Memorial March for Murdered and Missing Women takes place
February 14 2011.

At noon, we meet at the Carnegie Community Centre Theatre, 401 Main
Street where family members share personal stories. At 1 pm, the march
begins. Stops will be made throughout the DTES where women were last
seen or found and a smudge and cedar ceremony will commence. Speeches
by community activists takes place at the police station. At 3:00 pm,
a healing circle & candlelight vigil will be held at Oppenheimer Park.
The day will end with a community feast at the Japanese Language Hall.
